Dilatancy transition in a granular model
David Aristoff, Charles Radin

TL;DR
This paper presents a granular matter model demonstrating a second order phase transition related to dilatancy onset, analyzed through a stress ensemble and Monte Carlo simulations.
Contribution
It introduces a new granular model and identifies a dilatancy transition using stress ensemble analysis and Monte Carlo methods.
Findings
Model exhibits a second order phase transition.
Dilatancy onset is characterized as a phase transition.
Monte Carlo simulations confirm the transition.
Abstract
We introduce a model of granular matter and use a stress ensemble to analyze shearing. Monte Carlo simulation shows the model to exhibit a second order phase transition, associated with the onset of dilatancy.
