The Screened Field of a Test Particle
R. L. Dewar

TL;DR
This paper analytically and numerically calculates the screened field, including the forward field and wake, of a test particle moving at constant velocity in an unmagnetized collisionless plasma, providing insights into plasma response.
Contribution
It presents a novel analytical and numerical approach to compute the screened field and wake of a test particle in collisionless plasma, based on unpublished MSc thesis material.
Findings
Analytical expressions for the screened field and wake are derived.
Numerical simulations confirm the analytical results.
The study enhances understanding of plasma response to moving particles.
Abstract
The screened field (forward field and wake) of a test particle moving at constant velocity through an unmagnetized collisionless plasma is calculated analytically and numerically. This paper is based on unpublished material from my MSc thesis, supervised by the late Dr K. C. Hines.
