TL;DR
This paper introduces how the AdS/CFT correspondence explains the emergence of extra dimensions and local physics in string theory from the perspective of the 1/2-BPS sector of super Yang-Mills theory, aimed at non-experts.
Contribution
It provides an accessible explanation of how extra dimensions and local physics emerge in the AdS/CFT framework within the 1/2-BPS sector.
Findings
Six dimensions of string theory are emergent from Yang-Mills theory
Provides an intuitive account suitable for non-experts
Clarifies the emergence of local physics in higher dimensions
Abstract
We give an introductory account of the AdS/CFT correspondence in the 1/2-BPS sector of super Yang-Mills theory.Six of the dimensions of the string theory are emergent in the Yang-Mills theory. In this article we suggest how these dimensions and local physics in these dimensions emerge. The discussion is aimed at non-experts.
