Search for Klong to pi0 pi0 mu+ mu- with KTeV Data
Leo Bellantoni (For the KTeV Collaboration)

TL;DR
This paper reports the first experimental search for the decay Klong to pi0 pi0 mu+ mu- using KTeV data, aiming to detect potential new physics beyond the standard model suggested by HyperCP observations.
Contribution
It presents the first experimental search for Klong to pi0 pi0 mu+ mu- decay, constraining the existence of a hypothetical new neutral particle suggested by HyperCP results.
Findings
No significant signal observed, setting constraints on the decay rate.
Results limit the possibility of a new neutral state mediating the decay.
Preliminary results significantly restrict new physics scenarios.
Abstract
This presentation reports on the first experimental search for the decay Klong to based on data collected by the KTeV experiment. Although this decay mode is possible within the standard model, its rate is phase space suppressed. The HyperCP experiment has recently observed 3 events within a narrow di-muon mass range, suggesting that the process may occur via a new neutral state: with . The would create an - to - quark transition at a rate that would cause Klong to to occur at rates considerably over the standard model expectation. Our preliminary results significantly constrain this possibility.
