TL;DR
This paper investigates how superluminal refractive index changes in a medium can generate photon pairs from the quantum vacuum, with detailed analysis under realistic experimental conditions.
Contribution
It provides a detailed theoretical analysis of photon production from superluminal refractive index perturbations in realistic settings, expanding understanding of quantum vacuum interactions.
Findings
Photon pairs are produced due to superluminal index perturbations.
The process is feasible under realistic experimental conditions.
Photon production depends on the speed and profile of the index perturbation.
Abstract
We analyze in detail photon production induced by a superluminal refractive index perturbation in realistic experimental operating conditions. The interaction between the refractive index perturbation and the quantum vacuum fluctuations of the electromagnetic field leads to the production of photon pairs.
