TL;DR
This paper calculates two-boson exchange effects in parity-violating elastic electron-proton scattering, highlighting the importance of resonance states and form factors, and assesses their impact on strange form factor measurements.
Contribution
It provides a detailed hadronic model calculation including nucleon and $elta(1232)$ resonance states, clarifies the role of transition vertices, and evaluates corrections to experimental strange form factor extractions.
Findings
Nucleon contribution generally larger than $elta$ contribution.
$Nelta$ Coulomb quadrupole transition significant at high $Q^2$.
TBE corrections can be as high as ±50% in some kinematic regions.
Abstract
The details of the calculation of the two-boson exchange effects in the parity-violating elastic scattering within a simple hadronic model, including both the nucleon and -resonance intermediate states, are presented. We examine the sensitivity of our results with respect to choice of form factors. We emphasize the importance to use correct relations relating N to and to N transition vertex functions. The Coulomb quadrupole transition is found to play important role at higher GeV. We also elucidate the relation between our results and the well-known result on the effect given by Marciano and Sirlin (MS). The effect of the nucleon contribution to parity-asymmetry , is found to be in general, larger than the corresponding contribution except at extreme forward angles.…
