A Retrospective on Modulated Wavy Vortex Flow
Michael Gorman, Harry Swinney

TL;DR
This paper presents a fluid dynamics video illustrating the modulated wavy vortex flow in Taylor-Couette system, highlighting its role as a transitional state leading to turbulence with a gradual transition process.
Contribution
It provides visual evidence and analysis of the modulated wavy vortex flow state as a precursor to turbulence in Taylor-Couette flow.
Findings
Identification of the modulated wavy vortex flow as a transitional state.
Observation of a more gradual transition to turbulence.
Visual documentation of flow patterns in Taylor-Couette system.
Abstract
A fluid dynamics video of the Modulated Wavy Vortex Flow state of Taylor-Couette flow with the outer cylinder fixed is presented. This state precedes the transition to turbulence, which is more gradual than that for other fluid systems.
