Continuum generation by dark solitons
C. Milian, D.V. Skryabin, A. Ferrando

TL;DR
This paper shows that dark soliton trains in optical fibers with zero group velocity dispersion can generate broad spectral continua through resonant dispersive radiation, influenced by Raman scattering and third order dispersion.
Contribution
It reveals how dark solitons produce broad spectral continua in fibers with zero GVD, highlighting the roles of Raman scattering and third order dispersion in this process.
Findings
Dark soliton trains generate broad spectral continua.
Resonant dispersive radiation is emitted by solitons.
Raman scattering modulates the radiation based on third order dispersion sign.
Abstract
We demonstrate that the dark soliton trains in optical fibers with a zero of the group velocity dispersion can generate broad spectral distribution (continuum) associated with the resonant dispersive radiation emitted by solitons. This radiation is either enhanced or suppressed by the Raman scattering depending on the sign of the third order dispersion.
