TL;DR
This paper proposes using leading neutron production at the LHC to measure total $^+ p$ and $^+^+$ cross-sections, enabling pion collider studies in a novel way.
Contribution
It introduces a method to extract pion-proton and pion-pion cross-sections at the LHC using leading neutron detection, a novel approach in high-energy physics.
Findings
Estimated cross-section values for ^+ p and ^+^+ interactions.
Discussion of experimental feasibility and related challenges.
Potential for pion collider physics at the LHC.
Abstract
We propose an experiment at the LHC with leading neutron production. The latter can be used to extract from it the total cross-sections. With two leading neutrons we can get access to the total cross-sections. In this note we give some estimates and discuss related problems and prospects.
