Measuring the deviation from the Rutherford formula
E. A. Kuraev, M. Shatnev, E. Tomasi-Gustafsson

TL;DR
This paper investigates how small-angle electron-ion elastic scattering deviates from the Rutherford formula due to virtual photon exchange, providing calculations of charge asymmetry and polarization, with implications for proton-nucleus scattering.
Contribution
It introduces a detailed analysis of deviations from Rutherford scattering caused by virtual photons and extends the discussion to proton-nucleus elastic scattering.
Findings
Charge asymmetry and polarization effects are quantified.
Numerical predictions for deviations are provided.
Generalization to proton-nucleus scattering is discussed.
Abstract
Modern experiments with heavy ion-leptons collisions open the possibility to measure the deviation of cross section of small angles electron(positron)-ion elastic scattering from the Rutherford formula due to multiple virtual photons exchange. The charge asymmetry and the polarization of the scattered leptons are calculated and numerical predictions are given. A generalization to elastic proton-nucleus scattering is discussed.
