TL;DR
This paper examines whether the magnetic field of the GSI storage ring influences the periodic time-modulation of EC-decay rates in H-like heavy ions, concluding it does not cause such effects.
Contribution
It provides a theoretical analysis showing that a uniform magnetic field cannot explain the observed time-modulation of EC-decay rates.
Findings
Magnetic field of the ESR does not induce periodic decay rate modulation.
The motion of H-like ions in a uniform magnetic field cannot account for observed effects.
Contradicts previous claims that magnetic fields cause decay rate oscillations.
Abstract
We investigate the influence of the magnetic field of the Experimental storage ring (ESR) at GSI on the periodic time-dependence of the orbital K-shell electron capture decay ) rates of the H--like heavy ions. We approximate the magnetic field of the ESR by a uniform magnetic field. Unlike the assertion by Lambiase et al., arXiv: 0811.2302 [nucl-th], we show that a motion of the H-like heavy ion in a uniform magnetic field cannot be the origin of the periodic time-dependence of the EC-decay rates of the H-like heavy ions.
