Internet Traffic Periodicities and Oscillations: A Brief Review
Reginald D. Smith

TL;DR
This paper reviews methods for detecting and analyzing the persistent periodicities and oscillations in Internet traffic across various time scales, highlighting their significance and characteristics.
Contribution
It introduces measurement methodologies for identifying Internet traffic periodicities and summarizes the main observed periodic patterns.
Findings
Internet traffic exhibits persistent periodicities across multiple time scales.
Measurement methods can effectively detect and analyze these periodicities.
Understanding these oscillations aids in network management and security.
Abstract
Internet traffic displays many persistent periodicities (oscillations) on a large range of time scales. This paper describes the measurement methodology to detect Internet traffic periodicities and also describes the main periodicities in Internet traffic.
