TL;DR
This paper reviews recent advances in the study of marginally outer trapped surfaces, apparent horizons, and the trapped region, highlighting their applications in black hole coalescence and the characterization of trapped regions.
Contribution
It introduces new results on marginally outer trapped surfaces and applies these findings to black hole coalescence and trapped region characterization.

Abstract
I will discuss some recent results on marginally outer trapped surfaces, apparent horizons, and the trapped region. A couple of applications of the results developed for marginally outer trapped surfaces to coalescence of black holes and to the characterization of the trapped region are given.
