Active Galactic Nuclei, Radio Jets and Acceleration of UHECRs
S. Massaglia

TL;DR
This paper reviews the properties of Active Galactic Nuclei and their jets, discussing how these jets could accelerate particles to ultra-high energies and setting limits on their luminosity as sources of UHECRs.
Contribution
It provides a comprehensive overview of AGN jet properties and evaluates their potential as sources of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays, including luminosity constraints.
Findings
AGN jets can accelerate particles to ultra-high energies.
Limits on jet luminosity restrict their role as UHECR sources.
The structure and origin of jets are crucial for understanding cosmic ray acceleration.
Abstract
We present the general properties of the Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs) and discuss the origin and structure of jets that are associated to a fraction of these objects. We then we address the problems of particle acceleration at highly relativistic energies and set limits on the luminosity of AGN jets for being origin of UHECRs.
