A Note on Moduli Stabilisation in Heterotic Models in the Presence of Matter Fields
Andrei Micu

TL;DR
This paper examines a simplified heterotic string model with matter fields, revealing that the challenges in achieving viable gauge groups are similar to those without matter, highlighting persistent issues in moduli stabilization.
Contribution
It provides an analysis of a toy model from heterotic string compactifications with matter fields, showing the continued difficulty in finding solutions with viable gauge groups.
Findings
Solutions with viable gauge groups are as challenging as in models without matter.
Matter fields do not significantly alter the difficulty of moduli stabilization.
The model highlights persistent issues in heterotic string compactifications.
Abstract
In this brief note we analyse a toy model which can be derived from heterotic string compactifications on half-flat manifolds with SU(3) structure at first order in \alpha' (ie including matter fields). We show that for this model, finding solutions with viable gauge group poses the same problems as finding solutions in the absence of matter fields.
