Kinematic distributions and nuclear effects of $J/\psi$ production in 920 GeV fixed-target proton-nucleus collisions
HERA-B Collaboration

TL;DR
This study measures the kinematic distributions and nuclear effects of $J/ar{J}$ production in 920 GeV proton-nucleus collisions, revealing a transition from suppression to enhancement at negative Feynman-$x$ values, based on extensive data from the HERA-B experiment.
Contribution
First measurement of $J/ar{J}$ production in the negative $x_F$ region, providing new insights into nuclear effects at these kinematics.
Findings
Average nuclear suppression parameter $ar{ ext{alpha}}$ is 0.981 ± 0.015.
Nuclear suppression at high $x_F$ turns into enhancement at negative $x_F$.
Data collected from 2.4×10^5 $J/ar{J}$ mesons in multiple decay channels.
Abstract
Measurements of the kinematic distributions of mesons produced in C, Ti and W collisions at in the Feynman- region and for transverse momentum up to are presented. The and dependencies of the nuclear suppression parameter, , are also given. The results are based on mesons in both the and decay channels. The data have been collected by the HERA-B experiment at the HERA proton ring of the DESY laboratory. The measurement explores the negative region of for the first time. The average value of in the measured region is . The data suggest that the strong nuclear suppression of production previously observed at high turns into an enhancement at negative .
