The Ages of Stars: The Horizontal Branch
M. Catelan (PUC-Chile)

TL;DR
This review discusses recent advances in understanding horizontal branch stars, highlighting their significance in the age debate and the ongoing second parameter problem in stellar evolution.
Contribution
It provides an overview of recent progress in understanding the nature and origin of horizontal branch stars, emphasizing their role in stellar age determination.
Findings
Recent progress in understanding HB star properties
Insights into the origin of HB stars
Implications for the age debate
Abstract
Horizontal branch (HB) stars play a particularly important role in the "age debate," since they are at the very center of the long-standing "second parameter" problem. In this review, I discuss some recent progress in our understanding of the nature and origin of HB stars.
