Fall of an Elastic Bar in Central Gravitational Field: I. Newtonian Gravity
Sergey S. Kokarev

TL;DR
This paper models the deformation and destruction of an elastic bar falling into a central gravitational field, considering elastic, plastic, and destructive effects with specific material calculations.
Contribution
It introduces a comprehensive approach to analyze elastic and plastic deformations of falling bars in Newtonian gravity, including material-specific results.
Findings
Deformation patterns depend on material properties.
Plastic flow occurs before destruction in certain conditions.
Concrete deformation and destruction thresholds are provided for various materials.
Abstract
Within some reasonable approximations we calculate deformation of an elastic bar, falling on the source of central gravitational field. We consider both elastic deformations and plastic flow together with destroying of the bar. Concrete calculations for a number of materials are presented.
