Transverse Force on Quarks in DIS
Matthias Burkardt (New Mexico State University / Jefferson Lab)

TL;DR
This paper explores the connection between the moments of certain twist-3 parton distributions and the transverse force experienced by quarks in deep-inelastic scattering, providing insights into quark dynamics within polarized nucleons.
Contribution
It establishes a theoretical link between the $x^2$-moments of twist-3 distributions and the transverse force on quarks, advancing understanding of quark-nucleon interactions.
Findings
Relation between $g_2(x)$ moments and transverse force on quarks
Connection of $e(x)$ moments to force on polarized quarks
Enhanced understanding of quark dynamics in polarized nucleons
Abstract
The interaction dependent part of the -moment of the twist-3 polarized parton distribution is related to the transverse force acting on the active quark in deep-inelastic scattering off a transversely polarized nucleon immediately after it has absorbed the virtual photon. Similarly, the -moment of the chirally odd twist-3 unpolarized parton distribution can be related to the transverse force experienced by a transversely polarized quark ejected from a transversely polarized nucleon.
