Into the bulk: reconstructing spacetime from the c=1 matrix model
Joanna L. Karczmarek, Daoyan Wang

TL;DR
This paper establishes a connection between the c=1 matrix model and dilaton-gravity theories by constructing exact solutions, providing insights into how gravitational and non-gravitational theories relate in the bulk spacetime.
Contribution
It introduces exact solutions linking the c=1 matrix model with dilaton-gravity, revealing how gravity can emerge from a non-gravitational matrix model.
Findings
Demonstrates a correspondence between scalar fields in both theories.
Provides a time-dependent background example.
Shows how gravity can be encoded in a matrix model.
Abstract
We write down exact solutions in the collective field theory of the c=1 matrix model and in dilaton-gravity coupled to a massless scalar. Using the known correspondence between these two theories at the null boundaries of spacetime, we make a connection between scalar fields in these two theories in the bulk of spacetime. In the process, we gain insight into how a theory containing gravity can be equivalent to one without gravity. We analyze a simple time-dependent background as an example.
