High-statistics study of neutral-pion pair production in two-photon collisions
Belle Collaboration: I. Adachi, et al

TL;DR
This study measures the differential cross section of neutral pion pair production in two-photon collisions over a broad energy range, analyzing resonance contributions, charmonium production, and comparing results with QCD models.
Contribution
It provides high-statistics measurements of $\gamma\gamma o \pi^0\pi^0$ cross sections, identifies resonance contributions, and compares neutral and charged pion production ratios with theoretical predictions.
Findings
Observation of resonances like $f_2'(1525)$, $f_2(1950)$, and $f_4(2050)$
Detection of $\chi_{c0}$ charmonium state production
Cross section ratio $\sigma(\pi^0\pi^0)/\sigma(\pi^+\pi^-)$ is approximately 0.32 in 3.1-4.1 GeV range
Abstract
The differential cross section for the process has been measured in the kinematic range 0.6 GeV GeV, in energy and pion scattering angle, respectively, in the center-of-mass system. The results are based on a 223 fb data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB collider. Using the data with GeV, we obtain results on light-quark resonances and charmonia. We also compare the observed angular dependence and ratios of cross sections for neutral-pair and charged-pair production to QCD models. Differential cross sections are fitted in the energy region, , with a simple model where partial waves consist of resonances such as , and and smooth backgrounds. In the higher energy region, we observe production of the…
