Reply to Comment on "Failure of the work-Hamiltonian connection for free-energy calculations" by Luca Peliti
J.M.G. Vilar, J.M. Rubi

TL;DR
This paper refutes Peliti's critique by emphasizing fundamental physical principles, clarifying misconceptions about the authors' work and classical thermodynamics.
Contribution
It clarifies misunderstandings of classical thermodynamics and defends the authors' original work against Peliti's misinterpretations.
Findings
Peliti's critique is based on misinterpretations.
The authors reaffirm the validity of classical thermodynamics.
Misunderstandings in Peliti's comment are addressed.
Abstract
We show that Peliti's Comment [arXiv:0808.2855] fails to appreciate basic physical principles and consequently misrepresents both our work as well as the classical work of Gibbs and Tolman.
