Alexander K. Popov, Sergei A. Myslivets, Vladimir M. Shalaev

TL;DR
This paper demonstrates the potential for mirrorless parametric oscillations in negative-index metamaterials, leveraging their unique backward wave properties, which could lead to novel optical device applications.
Contribution
It introduces the concept of mirrorless negative-index parametric micro-oscillators, highlighting their feasibility and unique properties due to backward wave phenomena.
Findings
Mirrorless parametric oscillations are feasible in negative-index metamaterials.
Backward wave properties enable new oscillation mechanisms.
Potential for novel optical device applications.
Abstract
The feasibility and extraordinary properties of mirrorless parametric oscillations in strongly absorbing negative-index metamaterials are shown. They stem from the backwardness of electromagnetic waves inherent to this type of metamaterials.
