TL;DR
This paper calculates the next-to-leading order QCD corrections for W-boson pair production with a jet at hadron colliders, improving the accuracy of background predictions for Higgs and new physics searches at the LHC.
Contribution
It provides the first detailed NLO QCD correction calculation for pp->WW+jet, enhancing theoretical predictions for collider experiments.
Findings
NLO corrections significantly stabilize cross section predictions.
Application of jet veto reduces theoretical uncertainties.
Enhanced precision aids Higgs and new physics searches.
Abstract
We report on a calculation of the next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the production of W-boson pairs in association with a hard jet at hadron colliders, which is an important source of background for Higgs and new-physics searches at the LHC. If a veto against the emission of a second hard jet is applied, the corrections stabilize the leading-order prediction for the cross section considerably.
