A simple mechanism for the reversals of Earth's magnetic field

TL;DR
This paper demonstrates that a model used for the VKS experiment's magnetic field dynamics can also explain Earth's magnetic field reversals, highlighting a shared underlying mechanism despite system differences.
Contribution
It introduces a simple model that accounts for Earth's magnetic field reversals based on a framework originally applied to laboratory dynamo experiments.
Findings
The model explains Earth's magnetic reversals.
It unifies laboratory and planetary dynamo behaviors.
The approach simplifies understanding of magnetic field reversals.
Abstract
We show that a model, recently used to describe all the dynamical regimes of the magnetic field generated by the dynamo effect in the VKS experiment [1], also provides a simple explanation of the reversals of Earth's magnetic field, despite strong differences between both systems.
