M. Ogren, G. M. Kavoulakis

TL;DR
This paper investigates the stability of persistent currents in Bose-Einstein condensates confined in toroidal traps, focusing on their tunability and the challenges in creating and detecting such currents.
Contribution
It provides a theoretical analysis of the factors affecting persistent current stability in toroidal BECs and discusses potential methods for their control and observation.
Findings
Stability of currents can be tuned by system parameters
Difficulties in creating persistent currents are identified
Detection methods for persistent currents are analyzed
Abstract
Motivated by recent experiments in Bose-Einstein condensed atoms that have been confined in toroidal traps, we examine the stability of persistent currents in such systems. We investigate the extent that the stability of these currents may be tunable, and the possible difficulties in their creation and detection.
