Fr\'ed\'erique Motte (AIME), Patrick Hennebelle (LRA)

TL;DR
This paper reviews current theories and observations of high-mass star formation, highlighting the expected advancements with Herschel's observations, especially in understanding the earliest phases.
Contribution
It provides a comprehensive review of high-mass star formation and discusses future progress with Herschel's key programs.
Findings
Differences between high-mass and low-mass star formation
Expected insights from Herschel observations
Progress in understanding early high-mass star formation
Abstract
We review the theories and observations of high-mass star formation emphasizing the differences with those of low-mass star formation. We hereafter describe the progress expected to be achieved with Herschel, thanks notably to Key Programmes dedicated to the earliest phases of high-mass star formation.
