String Dual of N=1 Super Yang-Mills on the Cylinder
Felipe Canoura

TL;DR
This paper explores the string theory dual of N=1 super Yang-Mills theory on a cylindrical spacetime, revealing non-perturbative effects from BPS M-branes using a modified Maldacena-Nunez solution.
Contribution
It provides a stringy dual description of N=1 SYM on R^{1,2}xS^1, including the explicit computation of a non-perturbative superpotential from BPS M-branes.
Findings
Identification of BPS M-branes generating superpotential.
Extension of Maldacena-Nunez solution to compact dimensions.
Explicit calculation of non-perturbative superpotential.
Abstract
We study the stringy description of N=1 supersymmetric SU(N) gauge theory on R^{1,2}xS^1. Our description is based on the known Maldacena-Nunez solution, properly modified to account for the compact dimension. The most interesting of its properties is that extra BPS M-branes are present, which generate a non-perturbative superpotential that we explicitly compute.
