Effect of linear lumping on controllability and observability
Zs\'ofia Horv\'ath

TL;DR
This paper investigates how linear lumping transformations affect the controllability and observability of linear systems, establishing that controllability is preserved under lumping and illustrating findings with reaction kinetics examples.
Contribution
It provides theoretical insights into the preservation of controllability during linear lumping and demonstrates this with practical reaction kinetics examples.
Findings
Controllability of the original system implies controllability of the lumped system.
Lumping preserves controllability under certain conditions.
Examples from reaction kinetics illustrate the theoretical results.
Abstract
The effect of linear lumping, linear transformation to reduce the number of state variables on controllability and observability of linear differential equations has been studied. Controllability of the original system implies the controllability of the lumped system. Examples taken from reaction kinetics illustrate our results.
