TL;DR
This paper estimates how far an energetic gluon can travel in a strongly coupled plasma using gauge-string duality, modeling it as a doubled string in a holographic setup.
Contribution
It introduces a novel holographic method to calculate gluon energy loss and stopping length in a strongly coupled plasma.
Findings
Gluon stopping length scales with energy and temperature as predicted by holography.
The doubled string model provides insights into jet quenching phenomena.
Quantitative estimates of gluon energy loss in N=4 super-Yang-Mills plasma.
Abstract
We estimate the stopping length of an energetic gluon in a thermal plasma of strongly coupled N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory by representing the gluon as a doubled string rising up out of the horizon.
