Dmitry Malyshev, Herman Verlinde

TL;DR
This paper introduces the construction of Standard Model-like gauge theories using D-branes at singularities in Calabi-Yau manifolds, providing foundational concepts for string phenomenology.
Contribution
It offers an expanded pedagogical overview of how D-branes at singularities can be used to realize realistic gauge theories in string theory.
Findings
Framework for constructing SM-like theories from D-branes
Explanation of singularity-based gauge theory engineering
Foundational concepts for string phenomenology
Abstract
In these notes we give an introduction to some of the concepts involved in constructing SM-like gauge theories in systems of branes at singularities of CY manifolds. These notes are an expanded version of lectures given by Herman Verlinde at the Cargese 2006 Summer School.
