Patterns of the Exclusive Double Diffraction
V. A. Petrov, R. A. Ryutin (IHEP, Serpukhov, Russia)

TL;DR
This paper analyzes Exclusive Double Diffractive Events (EDDE) in proton-proton interactions, providing cross-section calculations and proposing measurements to extract detailed information about the interaction region from diffractive patterns.
Contribution
It offers a new calculation framework for EDDE cross-sections and suggests experimental measurements to probe the interaction region more precisely.
Findings
Cross-section formulas for $p+p o p+M+p$ are derived.
Diffractive patterns can reveal the structure of the interaction region.
Proposes joint CMS-TOTEM measurements for experimental validation.
Abstract
We consider Exclusive Double Diffractive Events (EDDE) as a powerfull tool to study the picture of the interaction. Calculations of the cross-sections for the process are presented in the convenient form for further experimental applications. We propose measurements of t-distributions in the joint CMS-TOTEM experiment. It is shown that important information on the interaction region could be extracted from the diffractive pattern.
