TL;DR
This paper investigates the stellar kinematics and star formation history of M83, finding no hidden mass concentrations at its center and revealing an age gradient along the starburst arc linked to orbital motion.
Contribution
It provides the first clear evidence of an age gradient along the starburst arc and clarifies the nature of mass distribution at M83's center.
Findings
No evidence of hidden mass concentrations at M83's center
Detection of an age gradient along the starburst arc
Starburst arc formed from orbital motion away from a starforming region
Abstract
Stellar kinematics show no evidence of hidden mass concentrations at the centre of M83. We show the clearest evidence yet of an age gradient along the starburst arc and interpret the arc to have formed from orbital motion away from a starforming region in the dust lane.
