Gutzwiller's Trace Formula and Vacuum Pair Production
Dennis D. Dietrich, Gerald V. Dunne

TL;DR
This paper introduces a novel semiclassical approach using Gutzwiller's trace formula to compute vacuum pair production rates in quantum electrodynamics with complex electromagnetic backgrounds.
Contribution
It applies Gutzwiller's trace formula to derive a compact semiclassical expression for pair production in inhomogeneous fields, advancing theoretical methods in QED.
Findings
Derived a new semiclassical formula for pair production rate
Applicable to general inhomogeneous electromagnetic fields
Provides a more compact expression compared to previous methods
Abstract
We propose a new application of the Gutzwiller trace formula formalism, to give a compact expression for the semiclassical vacuum pair production rate in quantum electrodynamics, for general inhomogeneous electromagnetic background fields.
