Dirk Englund, Hatice Altug, Ilya Fushman, Jelena Vuckovic

TL;DR
This paper reports a highly efficient, room-temperature photonic crystal nanocavity laser with ultra-short pulses and low threshold, advancing nanophotonics and laser technology.
Contribution
It introduces a surface-passivated nanocavity laser operating at room temperature with ultra-short pulses and low power threshold, a significant improvement over previous designs.
Findings
Room-temperature operation achieved
Pulse duration of 3 ps demonstrated
Threshold power as low as 9 μW
Abstract
We describe an efficient surface-passivated photonic crystal nanocavity laser, demonstrating room-temperature operation with 3-ps total pulse duration (detector response limited) and low-temperature operation with ultra-low-threshold near 9uW.
